Why Study Pre-Law at UTF?
It surprises many students to learn that law schools do not recommend a particular curricular path for admission. Instead, they prefer applicants who have been prepared by a broad range of challenging courses that develop skills in areas such as problem-solving, critical thinking, research, writing, and oral communication. Therefore, most universities do not offer a “pre-law” major. The American Bar Association (ABA) counsels undergraduate students as follows: “Whatever major you select, you are encouraged to pursue an area of study that interests and challenges you, while taking advantage of opportunities to develop your research and writing skills.”
University of Toccoa Falls offers majors in business, English, criminal justice, and history as standard routes to law school. However, our majors in biblical studies, communication studies, and cross-cultural studies also develop proficiencies that law schools find highly desirable. In addition to rigorous academic training, law schools value service to others and the promotion of justice. These objectives align nicely with the intention of UTF to be a university that intentionally integrates the development of character with intellect.

What can you do with a Pre-Law plan of study?
When you earn a degree with a pre-law plan of study, you will find that there are many career opportunities available to you. Graduates are qualified for a wide range of jobs:
Law School
A popular option for students studying pre-law is to pursue law school immediately. Graduates will be prepared to take the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT), be admitted into law school, and after passing the Bar exam, ready to move into their law career.
Attorney
Naturally, many law graduates are interested in a career as an Attorney. Attorneys are lawyers that provide legal counsel to clients through a variety of means.
Paralegal
This position is an assistant to lawyers helping them with reports, notes, documentations and interviews. A pre law graduate would be prepared to enter this field with some form of additional certification.
